How To: Kiteboard Repair

So ya got some kiteboarding damage on your hands? It may be easier to repair your kiteboard than you think. Depending on where you ride, your deck can take quite a beating. People who ride in shallow and rocky areas can really benefit from a little board repair knowledge. It could save you a lot of money and more importantly fixing stuff just feels good.

Here’s what you'll need.
Two Part Epoxy
Masking Tape
Sand Paper (medium and fine grit)

Make sure that the damage is not structural.
If the damage looks really bad I would opt for professional repair with the manufacturer. However, chips (small or big), scratches and cracks can be repaired using epoxy. You can get two part epoxy at your local hardware store. It comes in double syringe tube that expels the two parts in equal amount. One tube is the actual epoxy and the other is a hardener.

Apply the epoxy generously to the the areas of damage.
You will be able to sand off any excess after the glue dries. Some epoxies are less viscous than others. If you are having trouble keeping the glue from running, create a perimeter around the repair are with masking tape. You should be able to remove the tape after about 30 minutes.

Let the epoxy dry for 2+ hours before sanding.
Use a light to medium grit paper to get the shape back and then a fine grit paper to smooth it out. Yer done!

One last note.
Epoxy dyes are available, so if you wanna keep your shiny board red or green or whatever, you may want to ask your hardware peeps about color options and matching. Nothing like kiteboarding in style!

Good Luck!!
